One Book, One Community: October 8th from 6-7PM

In recognition of Banned Books Week 2025, the Black Hawk County Libraries are inviting the Cedar Valley community to read George Orwell’s classic, 1984. This will be held at the Cedar Valley Arboretum in Waterloo on Oct. 8, from 6:00 – 7:00 PM. Join us for a thought -provoking book discussion as we explore the themes of censorship, freedom, and truth together. All library card holders and Arboretum members will be allowed free admission to the event if their library card is presented at the front desk, otherwise there’s an $8.00 admission fee. Light refreshments will be served. If you have never read 1984, or would like to reread it, extra copies are available for checkout at the library. If you’ve lost your library card, we will be glad to reprint one for you, too.
